Title: “These Three Remain”
Author: Pamela Aidan
Publisher: Touchstone
Year: 2006
Genre(s): romance, some historical fiction
Part of a Series: Yes, third book
Rating:
Why I read it: To finish out the Fitzwilliam Darcy trilogy
Summary: Fitzwilliam Darcy goes to visit his Aunt Catherine and is reunited with Elizabeth Bennett. His first proposal goes horribly wrong and sends him on a deep introspective. As he helps his friend, Darcy also takes steps to correct himself and make himself worthy of Miss Elizabeth Bennett. But will he ever get a second chance in order to prove it to her?
Review: We return to the main Pride and Prejudice plot in this book, which also ups the romance.
Darcy is reunited with Elizabeth but things don’t go well as anyone who has read Pride and Prejudice knows. This time we see how Darcy becomes the man who Elizabeth rejected to the man she accepted. And Elizabeth plays a big part.
So does Georgiana, Darcy’s beloved sister. We get to see more of her and her relationship with Darcy. It’s sweet and something I wanted to see more of after reading Pride and Prejudice. And there’s also the possibility of a romance brewing between Georgiana and someone else in the story…But you’ll have to read it to find out who.
Brougham deserves his own series. Or at least his own book. He was quite interesting and instrumental in helping Darcy realize why his proposal went over like a sack of bricks. With this revelation, Darcy is able to change himself. Brougham is also involved in more intrigue with this book and helps Darcy with Wickham.
The romance gets a kick with the return of Elizabeth. And it’s quite a good ride to the famous ending all we Austenites know and love.
Bottom line: A great conclusion to a great series.
Sex: Nope.
