Part of a Series: No
Why I read it: Once Upon a Book Club selection
Summary: When celebrated pianist Diana Clare dies tragically in a plane crash, the love song she wrote for her fiancé Arie survives and travels around the world. As it makes it way back to Diana’s native Australia, aspiring poet Evie also returns there and befriends Arie. Will they find healing and a chance at love with each other? And if so, will the song finally reach it’s intended recipient?
Review: This had a sad beginning but it was a compelling story none-the-less. But as a frequent flyer…I’m pretty sure it gave me a nightmare after I read the parts about Diana’s death.
So slight warning about that.
However, that really is a small part of the story – it doesn’t even count as a spoiler because it’s in the summary of the book – and the rest is not as sad. It’s a story about second chances and I love stories like that.
It is also a story about the power of love and music. While the main story belongs to Arie and Evie, we get these little interludes that show how Diana’s song for Arie travels the world and brings people together – both romantically as well as other forms of love. It’s really beautiful and certainly powerful even before it comes full circle at the end.
Arie and Evie are wonderful main characters. You root for them separately and together. While it takes a while for them to meet, once they do, you can see why they should be a couple. Both understand the other in ways that others in their lives can’t. And they both help each other find something they’ve been missing for far too long.
You also can’t help but root for all the secondary characters included in the interludes. Darke has created several beautiful stories that weave together perfectly to create a beautiful tapestry and a wonderful story.
Bottom line: A beautiful story about how music can change our lives.
Sex: At least one scene
