“A Legend in the Baking” by Jamie Wesley

Title: A Legend in the Baking
Author: Jamie Wesley
Publisher: St. Martin’s Press
Year: 2024
Genre(s): romance
Part of a Series: Yes. Read my review of Book 1 here.

Why I read it: Because I enjoyed the first book.

Summary: August Hodges never wanted the spotlight, even though he is a professional football player and co-owner of one of the hottest cupcake shops in the city. But when his rant in support of women goes viral, the spotlight finds him. He finds himself needing to navigate his newfound fame as he and his partners prepare to open a second location. Since fame doesn’t come naturally to him, he’s going to need help.

Enter Sloane Dell, the sister of his friend and business partner Donovan. Sloane is building a career as a social media manager and helping to manage her brother’s business will be a great stepping stone toward her dream job. She agrees to help August channel his fifteen minutes of fame toward helping the shop grow. However, working closely with August brings back feelings she thought were in the pass. Will she be able to help August and possibly get a happy ending she never thought possible? Or will they both just get burned?

Rating:

Review: I love this book series. I know there’s a third one coming out soon and I hope to read it so I can complete the trilogy. (Though I hope that maybe it will extend). I don’t think I’ve been so excited for a series since the Supernatural Singles series.

However, Wesley didn’t fall into the trap that April Asher unfortunately did – she made this romance different. Sloane and August felt different from Jada and Donovan so it didn’t feel like I was reading the same story over again.

While the first book was a fake dating situation, this one is essentially a second chance romance. Sloane and August had feelings for each other earlier but it wasn’t the right time for them. Now, they have the chance to try again – as long as they get out of their own ways.

I love a second chance romance and this really scratched that itch.

I also loved Sloan and August as much as I loved Jada and Donovan. They had great chemistry and it was easy to root for them to get together. I also enjoyed them individually as characters as well. Both went on a journey throughout the book that not only brought them together but made them stronger as people.

Their challenges also felt real and didn’t feel like a contrivance just to keep them apart longer. Sloan and August faced some hurdles both internally and externally but once they cleared them, it was worth the wait.

Bottom line: A wonderful and fun read.

Sex: Yes. Graphic details.
