“Here Comes the Drama” by Christa Innis

Title: Here Comes the Drama
Author: Christa Innis
Publisher: Eleanora Press
Year: 2025
Genre(s): romance
Part of a Series: Possibly book 1.

Why I read it: I’ve seen Christa’s sketches and wanted to read her book.

Summary: Ferris proposes to his girlfriend Sloane but not everyone is happy for them. His mother, Kate, proves to be the biggest obstacle to them getting down the aisle. Will they find a way to get around her…or will she get her way in the end?

Rating:

Review: I’m a bit torn about this.

On one hand, it did capture the plot we all came to love that Innis created for her videos – and maybe a couple more. We got to enjoy her characters again and feel the same emotions her videos evoked, which I believed she did.

However, I thought the book would allow her to flesh out the characters more and I don’t think she really did that. It felt more like she was doing her best to keep it to the skits with just a little more narration so it’s not dialogue heavy. My opinion is that she needed some more description and to slow down, let the story really breath.

Because she had a good story. It likely wouldn’t have gotten so popular if she didn’t. People like me enjoyed following Ferris and Sloane and Jenny and seeing if Kate would get some comeuppance. We became attached to them as if we were watching a TV show and I really would’ve loved to spend more time with them in the book.

One character who I felt did get fleshed out a little more was Jenny, Ferris’ sister. I did enjoy her plotlines and the parts from her perspective the most. So kudos to Innis for that.

Bottom line: A good read for fans of Innis’ work.

Sex: Not really.
